Surf's Up...

Yesterday, my camp kids and our team were supposed to go to CB Smith Park. Because of the weather, we went to the movie theatres instead. We watched Surf's Up. If you know me, you know how critical I am about animated films that are not produced by Disney/Pixar. Besides all three Shrek, I am not a fan of all those other movies: over the hedge, happy feet, etc.

So let's talk about Surf's Up. Yup, another penguin movie. Yay. (sarcastic) There lucky penguins are cute, but the ones in this movie are not all cute, with the exception of the little baby ones. They are super cute. I won't tell you the movie, but of course it has to do with surfing. About one penguins dream to become the best surfer like his hero Big Z. So we are taken through this documentary feel story line (kinda like the beginning of the Incredibles) & follow this little penguins journey. There were some funny scenes but I will say this, there were several sexual innuendos that I just don't appreciate. I was researching some reviews from other people & they were all over. Some liked it, some didn't. One guy said he liked it because of the hidden adult jokes, which he would laugh when no child would laugh. Hmm...that just can't be good. Another parent said they didn't appreciate the way they talked to each other. Some stuff was a bit mean & rude. Others loved the animation & message.

Overall, out of 5 stars I give it a 2. The movie did make me want to surf though. :) The movie had its message of not giving up. The animation was pretty good. But, I wouldn't buy it. I am glad I didn't have to pay for my ticket. So, if you guys decide to watch it, you can leave your reviews. I'd like to know what you thought.

Lastly, today we watched the Incredibles. I LOVE THAT MOVIE! That is what our family will be like. Heredes & I already have the dolls, we need to add the children. :) That movie is just great. So family oriented. Keeping the family first- the importance of being a team. while watching it, i was drawing...that was one of my dreams, to become an animator...but for now, i'll just sit & watch disney movies & save up so i can buy all of them... until next time....

Update on Extreme Week '07

As you can all see, I am not the best blogger. I just got home and decided to check my blog out & wanted to say, "Thank You Anne Marie for pushing me to update you guys on the event- Extreme Week". It was a great, fun, exciting time. I was placed as a team leader for the 5th grade girls team, the Base Jumpers. It was so great how God worked things out because my other team leaders were my friend's sisters. I got to know them a bit more and they were such encouraging young women.

Our girls, the ones in the picture above, were so sweet. To let you know, I started work at 7:45 am until 4:15, rushed to Cooper City to be there by 5:00. I was a bit beat, but once the event started, seeing all those kids worshiping God, listening to the messages, having team talk and being together just brought such strenghth & joy. And then after the event, I totally crashed in my yummy bed.

Here is a run down of the event:

Monday- Extreme Beginnings!
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Matt. 6:33
We were all encouraged to do what this verse says, seek (climb) His kingdom & His righteousness. We were challenged to pick 2 things that would get us started in our extreme "climb" towards/for God.

Tuesday- Extreme Waves!
"But soon a fierce storm arose. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water." Mark 4:37
We were all challenged about the storms in our lives and how to deal with them. I know we can all relate to this verse. It's so easy to worry & doubt God when things are shaky & scary. Instead of worrying & being afraid, we were reminded of three things we must do when storms come our way: Go to Jesus, Do not be scared, & Live by faith. If you guys only knew how much this verse and this message was for me. I love to be reminded about who I am to always go to during my storms. ON this day we also had Water day. I wasn't planning to go on the massive, very wet slides..but if you know me, it doesn't take much for me to change my mind. The point- I jumped in- Jeans and all. :)

Wednesday- Extreme 180!
"He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
This was our Skate Board night (Ramp 48 Christian Skaters) & salvation night. The speaker said this, "You can't be good, until you BECOME good. (Make a full 180) To do what this verse tells us, we need to be a follower of Christ. In small talk, Debbie and I were able to jot names of girls who had prayed the prayer of salvation. It is always great to see children have sincere faith. Didn't Christ say, "let the little children come to me, & do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. " Matt. 19:14. Now, this is not a discussion about children & their true understanding of salvation. I know that God knows, & it simply excites me to see children learning & loving Christ & knowing He will reveal Himself at the right time to them individually. At the summer camp I work at (a christian one) i work with 9 & 8 yrs. who, some, are already struggling with believing if God even exists. Not that is just sad & breaks my heart.

Thursday- Extreme Champions!
"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Romans 8:37
As Christians, how do we become Champion Christians? Well, three things: Develop my God-given skills, talents & gifts, Develop self-control (umm that one is truly a discipline), & Sweat- be ready to work for a lifetime, a kingdom difference. Reminds me of our mission here at FRC- partnering with people to reach their God potential. Don't we, don't you want to be a Champion Christian? I sure do. And to add, we had the Miami Heat Xtreme Team. Very cool!

Friday- Kids Blitz
This was our closing night. Our kids blitz family night. Let's just say, lots of games- blue team vs. green team & a spiritual point to everything. It was so fun. And I just have to say, that my husband was the cutest time keeper ever!

Well, (Anne Marie) hope this explains alot about the event & thank you :) Some things i left out: every night we had incredible praise and worship led by the kids praise team & the band. The band consisted of my talented, gifted, cute, best guitartist husband Heredes (lol), Fuller & other talented, great musicians & singers. If you haven't seen their picture, which i have a feeling you guys have, check out heredes' blog.

Hope this makes up for the many unwritten days on this blog.

"Whethter we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from teh ove of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:39 CAMP VERSE

Extreme Week 2007

I am here in one of the rooms at church at Cooper City relaxing and listening to the Hillsong United "More than Life" CD. So awesome! The weekend so far has been good. The services went really well. We just kicked off a new summer series- The Secret: a study in the book of James. Heredes is about to play Pulse and then we are off to Fogovivo (Brazilian restaurant) to eat with my family for Father's Day. I just want to say that I have the best dad. He is a Great man who fears the Lord, is honest, holds on to integrity, and loves his family sooo much! I am PROUD of you daddy!!

Tomorrow, EXTREME WEEK begins. It will be the first time I ever experience this event. It is going to rock. The kids have music, engaging bible themes, and alot of guests. Some of the guests are the Miami Heat Extreme team, Ramp 48 skaters, and more. On Friday we have our Kidz Blitz Live show, which is like Nickelodeon, Christian style.

It's going to be a long week with work and extreme week, but I just can't wait. I'll keep you posted on how the event goes.

The joy of children

Alot has happened these past 2 weeks. I started my new job. Yay! Getting back to the groove of waking up early. If you know me well, you know I am not a morning person, but I am getting better. I started working at Florida Christian's summer camp. I truly think I have the best age group, 8-9 year olds. It has been the best job so far. I really enjoy working with the kids, even though I take a beatin' at the end of the day. We do alot of fun things: arts & crafts, ceramics, gym, trips to museums, the beach, etc.

I've been learing alot about kids. I am so surprised how much they know about technology, movies, style. They have the latest phones (sidekicks all sooped up), Nintendo Ds's, know about every movie, and wear Ed Hardy clothing. I've been seeing alot of attitudes, good and bad. Some don't know the concept of sharing while alot of them are so generous to give me their uneaten food. Even though I get a bit mean sometimes, I truly love them and enjoy listening to their stories & watching the things they do.

I had a devotional this week about being Ambassadors for Christ. As Christians, we are to raise the Name of Jesus Christ high- make His Renown known. I am praying and hoping that I will get out of my lazy boy chair & do more than supervise kids, but listen, love them, & share Christ.

Well, on the other side at FRC Doral Kids, things went so awesome on Sunday. I have the greatest volunteers and God has answered our prayers because we have 4 people that have shown interest in kids ministry & have already begun to serve. I am just praying God will show each one of them if this is the ministry He wants them in. I really have to get on the ball and spend time with God in the Word & in prayer, research, read, keep recruiting & building leaders. I have never done something like this, but I am truly honored and excited and don't want to become lazy & fail my Savior.

Its been a great two weeks. Excited about the weekend and next week we have EXTREME WEEK. It will be my first time and I am so ready to be there. It has also been nice to know that even though work for both Heredes and I has been long, it has been so great to come home and see each other and talk and miss each other. I love him so much! Read his blog (as i know many of you do) and continue praying for him. God is really blessing him and I am so grateful for the way He is using him. I am truly blessed. Blessings
